SMS Meer to supply CONTIROD® plant
Germany's SMS Meer reports that it has received an order for a complete CONTIROD® type casting and rolling plant to produce copper rod from a company in the Zhejiang Province of China.
A press release said that the order from Ningbo Shimao Copper, which it described as a Chinese producer of copper cathodes, copper wire rod and special copper cables, will bolster the company's position in the copper business. The CONTIROD line will be in a new plant in the Bin Hai Industrial Zone near Yuyao.
The high-performance wire rod line can produce 225,000 t of quality copper wire rod per year from cathodes, the release said. It noted that the CONTIROD line is designed for an output of 35 t per hour, "and will thus be one of the larger ones of its kind in China." The system will have a gas control system on the shaft furnace for the melting of copper cathodes and a modular Hazelett twin-belt caster for a casting cross-section of 90 mm x 70 mm, it said. The line, it noted, will operate with a highly flexible 12-stand rolling mill. "Due to the newly designed Lambda gas control system and the usage of variable-frequency controlled drives for blowers and mill stands, this CONTIROD plant is, with fuel consumption figures of 300,000 kcal/t and 42 kWh/t, one of the most economical and ecological of its kind," it said.
The plant is scheduled to be commissioned this November.
