Description
An investigation into the wide number of conditions encountered during the wiredrawing process was attempted by the B.H.P. Wire Products Division’s research department. The hardware and software used are described, and the choice of the factorial design system (and the fractional factorial design in particular) discussed. Among the results reported are the effects on drawing load, residual coating weight, and tensile strength of the drawn wire. The experiments revealed a reduction in lubricant coating with speed and small but positive advantages gained by using pressure dies.
