Bekaert announces plans to expand its existing operations in Russia

Bekaert Lipetsk Plant Expansion Strengthens Tire and Construction Supply

Bekaertย plans a significantย Bekaert Lipetsk Plant Expansionย inย Lipetsk, Russia. The company will invest aboutย $24 millionย to add aย new bead wire production lineย and increaseย tire cord manufacturing capacity. Together, these projects reinforce Bekaertโ€™s role in tire reinforcement and construction markets across Russia and the wider CIS region.

New Bead Wire Line and Added Capacity

The Lipetsk plant now producesย steel cord for the tire industryย andย Dramixยฎ steel fibersย for construction. With the newย bead wire line, Bekaert will offer aย full range of tire reinforcement products, from bead wire to tire cord. As a result, local and international tire makers gain more sourcing options from one site.

The expansion should create aboutย 80 new jobs. In addition, Bekaert expects the extended plant to start production in theย first half of 2022, which will help meet rising demand in automotive and construction sectors.

Strategic Role for CIS and European Markets

Bekaert announced the investment during theย St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF โ€™21). The company noted that theย Bekaert Lipetsk Plant Expansionย will help the local team deliver more value to customers inย Russia and the CIS. It will also position the Lipetsk plant as anย export platform to European markets, which further strengthens Bekaertโ€™s regional supply network.

Long-term Commitment to the Lipetsk Site

Bekaert first expanded into Lipetsk inย 2008, when it committed more thanย โ‚ฌ97 millionย to build aย steel cord production plantย in theย Lipetsk Special Economic Zone. At that time, Bekaert already served Russian customers withย tire reinforcement cord,ย steel fibers for concrete, and otherย advanced steel wire productsย from plants inย Central Europe.

With Lipetsk, Bekaert localized production for Russia and the CIS. Initial production started aroundย 2010, and additional capacity followed throughย 2013, which improved service and reduced lead times for regional customers.

Serving Russia, CIS and Beyond

The Lipetsk plant sits aboutย 400 km south of Moscowย and serves customers acrossย Russia and the wider CIS region. Bekaert also runs aย sales office in Moscowย (opened inย 1998) that supports a broad portfolio ofย advanced steel wire solutionsย for automotive, construction, and industrial applications.

With the latestย Bekaert Lipetsk Plant Expansion, the company further strengthens its footprint and improves its ability to support bothย CIS and Europeanย customers over the long term.
