Danieli wins order from Russian steelmaker

Danieli Severstal Special Steel Rolling Mill Project

The Danieli Severstal special steel rolling mill project brings together Danieli (danieli.com) and Russian steelmaker AO Severstal (severstal.com) at Severstal’s Cherepovets plant. Danieli will supply a new mill that strengthens Severstal’s long products offering for engineering, automotive, and construction customers.

Danieli Severstal Special Steel Rolling Mill Product Range

The new rolling mill will produce 5.5 to 32 mm wire rod and coiled bars for engineering and automotive applications. In addition, it will roll 8 to 16 mm quenched rebar for construction use. As a result, Severstal gains a broader and more flexible product mix for regional and export markets.

Integrated Equipment, Automation, and Services

Danieli will supply the full technological equipment scope, plus automation systems and advisory services. A Danieli Centro Combustion walking beam reheating furnace will heat 12 m-long, 150 mm square billets to rolling temperature at 170 tons per hour, supporting consistent quality and efficient throughput.

High-Speed Roughing Mill and Dual Lines

A single-strand high-speed roughing mill, using horizontal and vertical housingless stands, will feed two independent wire rod lines. Additionally, a garret coiler will handle the larger diameters. With this configuration, the mill can efficiently produce both smaller wire rod and larger coiled bars. Startup is planned by the end of 2022.
