Ducab to supply power cable for expansion of worldโ€™s largest single site solar park

Ducab HV High-Voltage Solar Cable for DEWA

Ducab HV, a subsidiary ofย Ducab Groupย in the UAE, has secured a contract from theย Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA)ย to supplyย high-voltage cableย forย Phase 5 of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park (MBR Solar Park). The deal further strengthens Ducab HVโ€™s role in Dubaiโ€™s fast-growing renewable energy sector. For more on the company, visitย Ducab, and for project details, seeย DEWA.

Scope of supply for Phase 5

Under this order,ย Ducab HVย will deliver aroundย 275 km of high-voltage cable, along with allย relevant accessories and terminations. In addition, the Phase 5 development coversย three plots, and each plot will generateย 300 MWย of solar power. Theย MBR Solar Parkย ranks among theย worldโ€™s largest single-site solar parksย developed under theย independent power producer (IPP) model, and it aims to offer some of theย most cost-effective solar powerย anywhere.

Installation role and proven experience

Beyond manufacturing the cable,ย Ducab HVย will alsoย install the high-voltage cablesย as the cable subcontractor appointed byย Shanghai Electricย of China. This new award builds on Ducab HVโ€™s experience in earlier phases of the site. Previously, the companyย energized a full turnkey 132 kV system for Phase 3, which showed its ability to handle complex high-voltage projects from design through commissioning.

Supporting Dubaiโ€™s clean energy strategy

Through projects like this,ย DEWAย continues to positionย Dubaiย as aย global hub for clean energy and green economy. Itsย Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050ย targetsย 75% of Dubaiโ€™s total power output from clean energy by 2050. To reach that goal, DEWA broadens itsย energy mixย with solar, wind, and nuclear power and relies onย customized cabling solutionsย to link these assets into a more flexible grid.

Theย MBR Solar Parkย aims for a total production capacity ofย 5,000 MW by 2030, with investments of aboutย US$13.6 billion. Once completed, the park shouldย save more than 6.5 million metric tons of carbon emissions each year, helping Dubai significantly reduce its overall carbon footprint.

โ€œMade in UAEโ€ cables and local capability

Mike Engelbrecht, CEO ofย Ducab HV, notes that the company has built aย strong track recordย on many of theย UAEโ€™s flagship power and infrastructure projects, and theย MBR Solar Parkย project continues that legacy. He adds that Ducab HV won this contractย against strong global competition, which highlights the strength of its technology and service.

Engelbrecht also stresses that the project will continue to useย high-quality, โ€œMade in UAEโ€ cables. In his view, this approach not only powers the countryโ€™s growth for years to come but also supports theย UAE governmentโ€™s strategyย to buildย in-country competenceย and advanced manufacturing expertise.
