STL Expands U.S. Presence with New Palmetto Plant
STL (Sterlite Technologies Ltd.)ย has officially opened itsย new optical fiber cable manufacturing plantย inย Lugoff, South Carolina. Theย $56 million facility, called theย Palmetto Plantย after the state tree, marks STLโs first U.S. manufacturing site and a major milestone in its โMade in Americaโ strategy.
The 168,000โsquareโfoot facility will createย more than 150 jobs, boosting local employment and strengthening the supply chain for advanced fiber optic solutions. It was inaugurated byย South Carolina Governor Henry McMasterย and celebrated byย Ankit Agarwal, STLโs Managing Director and WholeโTime Director.
Promoting โMade in Americaโ Optical Solutions
Paul Atkinson, CEO of STLโs Optical Business Division, explained that this is the companyโs first optical fiber cable production base in the United States. โOur goal is to transform billions of lives by connecting the world,โ he said. โThis plant will help expand digital access across Americaโs rural regions.โ
STL has long served U.S. customers through its global operations. However, localizing production allows the company to meet demand faster and support initiatives forย 5G,ย FTTx, andย rural broadbandย deployment.
Advanced Technology for a Connected Future
The new plant specializes inย highโfiberโcount cables,ย highโcapacity ribbonized cables, andย rugged designsย suited for rural areas. These innovations will enhance network performance and reliability, supporting the nationโs expanding digital infrastructure.
STL operates in more thanย 150 countriesย and holds multiple patents for advanced fiber optic designs. The company is listed on both theย Bombay Stock Exchangeย and theย National Stock Exchange of India.
Strengthening Local Partnerships
STL has also built strong local relationships, notably withย TruVista, a South Carolinaโbased broadband provider. Since 2021, STL has supplied TruVista with optical fiber cables that support rural network expansion across the state.
โTruVista even connects fiber to our South Carolina plant,โ an STL statement noted, highlighting the collaboration. The companies plan to expand their partnership further to speed upย fiberโtoโtheโhome (FTTH)ย growth throughout the region.
Toward a Sustainable and Global Operation
Beyond the U.S., STL operatesย six manufacturing facilities in India, including the countryโs first optical fiber cable plant to earnย Zero Waste to Landfill certification. This commitment to sustainability mirrors STLโs global goal: delivering nextโgeneration fiber technology while protecting the environment.
