Italian telecom chooses 5 domestic suppliers for fiber optic cable needs

FiberCorp Fiber Optic Cable Suppliers Chosen by TIM

TIM SpAย selected five Italy-basedย fiber optic cable suppliersโ€”Ecotel,ย Metallurgica Bresciana,ย Prysmian,ย Technikabel, andย Tratosโ€”to support itsย FiberCorpย fixed network over the next two years. As a result, FiberCorp can accelerateย Italyโ€™s digital infrastructureย and expandย high-speed connectivityย across the country. For more on its network strategy, visitย TIM.

FiberCorpโ€™s plan for underserved areas

FiberCorp plans to connectย 76% of underserved regionsย in Italy byย 2025. These areas currently lack reliableย broadband service, so the potential impact remains significant. To reach this goal, TIM is developing aย single national access network.

As part of this plan, FiberCorp intends to merge withย Open Fiber, the state-controlled infrastructure company thatย Enelย andย Cassa Depositi e Prestiti (CDP)ย created. In addition, starting inย 2022, TIM will deployย fixed wireless access (FWA)ย in zones that the FiberCorp fiber plan does not cover. Together, these steps aim to narrow theย digital divideย and support Italyโ€™s widerย digitizationย agenda.

Supporting Italian industry with fiber optic cable suppliers

The selectedย fiber optic cable suppliersย will manage the fullย cable supply chainย within Italy. They will handleย cable development,ย cut-to-length processing,ย quality control, andย storageย at production, certification, and warehouse facilities on Italian territory. This structure strengthensย domestic industryย and also helps maintain strictย quality standards.

TIM explains that this initiative confirms its commitment toย Italyโ€™s industrial baseย andย entrepreneurial fabric. By relying on Italian manufacturers, TIM seeks to leverageย Italian production excellenceย while it builds aย strategic, high-performance infrastructureย for the countryโ€™s digital transformation. Progress on FiberCorp tenders

FiberCorp has already takenย concrete stepsย to build its own network. It has closed and awarded the first of two tenders forย fiber optic cable supply. As part of this process,ย Tratosย announced that it secured aย โ‚ฌ20 million fiber cable order, which underscores the importance of the selected suppliers in the rollout.
