Project Scope and Cable Supply Details
JDR will deliver a full cable package for the Hywind Tampen project in the North Sea’s Tampen area. The scope includes:

11 dynamic inter-array cables (66kV, 2.5 km each)

Two static export cables (12.9 km and 16 km)

JDR-designed breakaway systems

A full range of cable accessories

Engineering Challenges in Floating Wind
Floating offshore wind projects introduce complex engineering demands. Unlike fixed-bottom systems, these installations must handle continuous dynamic movement and high mechanical stress.
JDR designed its cable systems to withstand extreme offshore conditions, including high dynamic loads and deepwater pressure. The Tampen site reaches depths of 300 meters, making it one of the deepest floating wind projects to date.
Powering Oil and Gas with Renewable Energy
The Hywind Tampen project, developed by Equinor, will include 11 wind turbines rated at 8 MW each, delivering a total capacity of 88 MW.
The installation will supply approximately 35% of the annual power demand for the Snorre A and B and Gullfaks A, B, and C platforms. This integration represents a significant step toward reducing emissions in offshore oil and gas operations.
Manufacturing and Industry Expertise
JDR, part of the TFKable Group (https://www.tfkable.com), continues to lead in dynamic cable technology. The company previously delivered the world’s first 66kV dynamic cable system with a breakaway design for the WindFloat Atlantic project.
TFKable will manufacture the cable cores at its Bydgoszcz, Poland facility, while JDR will assemble the full systems at its Hartlepool, U.K. site. This collaboration ensures high-quality production across the supply chain.
