Leoni Group sells WCS unit to consortium

Leoni Studer AG Sale Supports Strategic Refocus

Leoni Groupย in Germany has soldย Leoni Studer AG, part of its Wire & Cable Solutions (WCS) division, to an investor consortium led by former Board memberย Bruno Fankhauserย andย Helvetica Capital. This Leoni Studer AG sale marks a key milestone in Leoni Groupโ€™s strategy to concentrate on its core wiring systems business.

The transaction includesย Leoni Schweiz AG, the holding company of Leoni Studer AG and a specialist in high-quality cables and wires for demanding industrial and infrastructure applications. After several months of negotiations, both parties signed a binding agreement, with closing expected by the end of the first quarter of 2021.

Leoni Group Sharpens Focus on Wiring Systems

Leoni Group continues to streamline its portfolio by divesting the units of itsย Wire & Cable Solutions (WCS)ย division and redirecting resources toward the wiring systems business. In the previous financial year, Leoni reorganized WCS into distinct units specifically intended for sale, and Leoni Schweiz AG now becomes the first of these units to transition to new ownership.

According to CEOย Aldo Kamper, the sale demonstrates that Leoni is progressing on two fronts: improving operating performance and sharpening its focus on wiring systems. He noted that the transaction environment is gradually improving and that Leoni has already received concrete indications of interest from buyers for additional WCS units. Leoni will sell further units when it can achieve fair value and when potential buyers present a sustainable, future-ready business concept.

Independent Future for Studer Cables

The buyer consortium plans to position Leoni Schweiz AGโ€”futureย Studer Cablesโ€”as a fast-moving, independent company that can realize its full potential. Their strategy centers on expanding the business in specialized cable segments, including:

  • Special and safety cables

  • Halogen-free, flame-resistant plastics

  • Irradiation cross-linking and sterilization technologies

As a long-standing member of the management teams atย Studer AGย andย Leoni Schweiz AG, Bruno Fankhauser brings more than 20 years of experience in the cable industry. He will leverage this expertise as the future CEO of the independent Studer Cables. Fankhauser emphasized the goal of further strengthening Leoni Studerโ€™s leading market position and core technical competencies, while also ensuring stability and continuity for employees and business partners.
