LS Cable plan will expand companyโ€™s capacity to produce submarine cable

LS Cable Donghae Submarine Expansion Boosts Global Cable Capacity

LS Cable & Systemย President & CEOย Myung Roe-Hyunย announced that the company will expand itsย submarine cable capacityย at itsย Donghae City, Gangwon-doย campus. Thisย LS Cable Donghae Submarine Expansionย supports rising demand for power cables that connect offshore wind and other renewable energy projects.

New Submarine Cable Plant and VCV Tower

LS Cable & System plans to build a newย submarine cable plantย inย Building No. 2ย at the Donghae campus. The site now operatesย three plants, and this project will add aย fourth plantย to the complex.

The expansion also includesย South Koreaโ€™s tallest power cable production tower. Theย 172-meter vertical continuous vulcanization (VCV) towerย will stand about as tall as aย 63-story apartment building. As a result, it will become the tallest structure inย Donghae Cityย and will improve both cable insulation quality and productivity.

Construction will begin inย Octoberย and should finish by theย end of April 2023. Overall, the project will costย more than US$161 millionย and will increase the companyโ€™sย submarine cable production capacity by over 1.5 times.

Long-term Commitment to Submarine Cable Manufacturing

LS Cable & System builtย Koreaโ€™s first submarine cable plantย inย Donghae Cityย inย 2008. Since then, the company has invested aboutย US$296 millionย in the site to strengthen its global power cable capabilities.

Today, the existing plant complex offers aย total floor area of about 84,000 square meters. With this expansion, LS Cable & System will add roughlyย 31,000 square metersย of additional space, which will support future projects and more advanced manufacturing systems.

Supporting Renewable Energy and the National Economy

โ€œAs countries around the world increase investments in renewable energy to achieve carbon-neutral goals, the submarine cable market continues to grow,โ€ saidย Myung Roe-Hyun, President & CEO ofย LS Cable & System. He added that this expansion will help the company support offshore wind and other clean energy projects. In addition, he emphasized that LS Cable & System will contribute to theย national economyย by expanding domestic investments.
