LS Cable & System to supply magnet wire for Hyundai electric vehicle drive motors

LS Cable EV Magnet Wire Supply Strengthens 800V Leadership

LS Cable & Systemย (LC&S) in South Korea will serve as the sole supplier of magnet wire for the drive motors of theย Hyundai IONIQ 5ย andย Kia EV6ย electric vehicles. This LS Cable EV magnet wire agreement covers high-performance enamel wire designed specifically for their main drive motors.

LC&S became the first South Korean company to mass-produce magnet wire suitable forย 800 Vย systems. The company expects this project to generate more thanย KRW 200 billionย in sales over the next six years, as demand for faster charging and efficient EV powertrains continues to rise.

High-Voltage Magnet Wire for Faster Charging EVs

To support higher charging speeds, LC&S developed a high-voltage magnet wire that uses a high-performance insulation material. This design increases efficiency and reliability even under demanding 800 V conditions. As the competition for faster charging intensifies, these high-voltage components grow more important for automakers and drivers alike.

Because of this development, LC&S believes the supply contract gives it a strong head start in the high-voltage EV wire market, which still sits in an early growth phase. By offering 800 V-ready magnet wire now, the company positions itself as a key partner for next-generation electric drivetrains.

Strong Growth Outlook in Eco-Friendly Magnet Wire

LC&S forecasts that global demand for environmentally friendly automotive magnet wire will grow more than six-fold byย 2025. To capture this opportunity, the company continues to reinforce its marketing efforts and increase investments aimed at global automakers.

โ€œThe drive motor and the battery are important enough to be called the two hearts of an electric vehicle,โ€ saidย Myung Roe-Hyun, President & CEO of LS Cable & System. โ€œWe are certain that the wires and parts business, which serves as the blood vessels of the heart, will also grow rapidly, so we are fostering them as new growth engines.โ€

Existing EV Partnerships and Future Development

Sinceย 2016, LC&S has suppliedย 400 V magnet wireย for the drive motors of theย Chevrolet Bolt EVย through its partnership withย GM. This long-term relationship proves the companyโ€™s reliability in EV applications.

Now, LC&S is also discussing new high-voltage magnet wire solutions that could support all future EV models produced by GM. With these projects and the Hyundai and Kia contract, LS Cable & System continues to expand its role in the global EV supply chain and strengthen its leadership in high-voltage magnet wire technology.
