Mattr Corp. enters agreement to acquire AmerCable from Nexans for $280 million

Mattr Strengthens U.S. Market Position with AmerCable Acquisition

Mattr Corp., based in Canada, announced an agreement to acquire AmerCable Incorporated, a leading U.S. manufacturer of advanced wire and cable solutions. Once completed, AmerCable will join Mattrโ€™s Connection Technologies segment.

The deal remains subject to standard closing conditions and is expected to finalize by the end of this year. This acquisition expands Mattrโ€™s presence in the growing U.S. electrification market and supports its focus on advanced connection technology.

A Leader in Engineered Cable Solutions

AmerCable, a subsidiary of Nexans, operates out of El Dorado, Arkansas. The company produces electrical power, control, and instrumentation cables designed for demanding industrial environments. It employs about 300 people and generated $248 million in 2023 revenue.

Nexans CEO Christopher Guรฉrin said the sale supports his companyโ€™s plan to refocus on electrification. He added that the decision aligns with Nexansโ€™ SHIFT transformation program, which helped AmerCable achieve full operational potential. Guรฉrin emphasized that it was the right time for a new owner to drive the next phase of growth.

Advancing Mattrโ€™s Electrification Strategy

Mattr President Mike Reeves stated that acquiring AmerCable marks a major milestone in expanding the companyโ€™s wire and cable capabilities in North America. The integration will add medium-voltage electrical power, control, and instrumentation cable products, further strengthening Mattrโ€™s regional manufacturing capacity.

Reeves noted that the deal will also help Mattr serve customers more effectively across Canada and the U.S.

Mattrโ€™s Growth and Transformation Journey

Mattr Corp., formerly Shawflex Ltd., rebranded in 2023 to reflect its shift from energy services to materials technology. Today, the company operates through two primary business units:

  • Composite Systems, focused on pipe technology for oil and gas applications.
  • Connection Technologies, specializing in high-performance wire and cable, shrink tubing, and accessories for harsh environments.

To support future growth, Mattr recently began relocating its Shawflex operations to a larger and more efficient facility in Vaughan, Ontario. The move will take place in phases, with the site reaching full production by 2026.
