NKT reports plans to invest in power cable transportation as well as logistics controls

NKT Expands Offshore Power Cable Capacity in Germany

NKT, a Germany-based cable manufacturer, has announced significant capacity expansion forย offshore power cableย transportation and storage from itsย Cologne factory. The investment responds to growing demand in theย offshore wind industry.

NKT Invests in Cable Transport Infrastructure

Due to strong market outlook and a robust order backlog,ย NKTย is investing in a new specially designed barge for theย Rhine River. This vessel will increase transportation capacity. Additionally, it will enhance delivery security from theย Cologne manufacturing site.

Furthermore, NKT is expanding capacity at itsย Rotterdam logistical center. From there, the company loads cables manufactured in Cologne onto cable-laying vessels.

Strategic Position in Offshore Power Cable Market

Mika Makela,ย Executive Vice Presidentย heading the Cologne manufacturing site, emphasized the investment’s importance. Notably, he stated that it will strengthen NKT’s position as a leadingย offshore power cableย provider.

Neptune Marineย designed and is building the barge specifically for the Rhine’s changing conditions. Importantly, the vessel can operate in shallow water levels. Moreover, the barge runs onย green electricityย during cable loading at the Cologne harbor. Similarly, the factory itself usesย electricity generated from renewable energy.

Growing Offshore Wind Sector Demand

NKT maintains a strategic position to deliver cables for the expandingย offshore wind sector. Specifically, the company serves projects in theย North Sea and Baltic Sea. Additionally, NKT supports theย interconnector marketย driven by Europe’s transition to renewable energy.

The company expects the new barge to become fully operational by year’s end. Consequently, this will enable NKT to meet increasing demand while maintaining sustainable operations.
