NKT Wins Ellevio Power Grid Cable Frame Agreement
NKTย has signed a four-year frame agreement with Swedish utilityย Ellevioย to supplyย low- and medium-voltage power cablesย that reinforce the regional power grid inย Central Sweden, including the Stockholm area.
Scope of the cable supply
Under the agreement, NKT will deliver cables fromย 1 kV up to 36 kV. The cables will support projects that:

These efforts help Ellevio modernize its network and improve reliability as electricity demand increases.

Supporting electrification and renewable energy
According toย Peter Marcusson, Nordic Director of Sales for Utilities at NKT, the new frame agreement lets NKT continue its long-term collaboration with Ellevio. He notes that both companies focus on ensuring the grid has enoughย capacityย to handle increasedย electrification, driven byย urbanizationย and the shift toย renewable energy.
The agreement runs throughย 2024, and the partners also included anย option to extend for three more years, which would provide additional stability for ongoing investment.
Future-proofing Central Swedenโs power grid
NKT and Ellevio will also work together to developย new products and installation methodsย that helpย future proofย the regional grid. Marcusson points out that parts of theย existing infrastructure are aging, so the partners need toย reinforce and expandย the network to meet growing electricity demand.
A key focus area isย weather proofingย the power grid. By replacing overhead lines with underground cables, Ellevio aims toย reduce weather-related outagesย and improve long-term resilience.
Meeting urban and EV-driven demand
Inย Stockholm, rapidย urbanizationย drives significant investment in the grid. Newย city districts,ย roads, andย tunnelsย all require strong and flexible power infrastructure. At the same time, the rising number ofย electric vehiclesย increases load on the network, which pushes Ellevio to expand capacity in larger cities and ensure timely upgrades.
As one of Swedenโs largest electricity distribution companies,ย Ellevioย supplies power toย more than 960,000 customers in Central Sweden, including theย Stockholm region.
