NKT Wins Record SuedLink HVDC Cable Project
NKT has secured its largest-ever order, valued at more than €1 billion, for the SuedLink HVDC cable project from TenneT (https://www.tennet.eu) and TransnetBW (https://www.transnetbw.de). The project requires NKT to supply and install a 525 kV XLPE high-voltage DC (HVDC) onshore cable system.

SuedLink HVDC Cable Project Overview
The SuedLink HVDC cable project forms a key part of Germany’s energy infrastructure. It includes two major power cable systems designed to transport renewable energy across the country.
NKT will deliver a 2 GW cable link, which will become the world’s largest and longest underground HVDC interconnector. This system will play a critical role in supporting Germany’s energy transition.
Connecting Renewable Energy Across Germany
The SuedLink corridor begins in Northern Germany, where it connects to offshore wind power. It also links to the NordLink interconnector, which delivers hydropower from Norway to Germany through a 525 kV HVDC offshore cable system, also supplied by NKT.
As a result, the project will improve grid stability and enable efficient transmission of renewable energy across long distances.
Expansion into SuedOstLink Projects
Earlier this year, NKT also announced its role in delivering most of the 525 kV XLPE cable system for the SuedOstLink corridor in Eastern Germany. This additional project further strengthens NKT’s presence in Germany’s grid expansion efforts.
