Cavel Srl., an Italian manufacturer of specialized coaxial, LAN/Ethernet, and video surveillance cables, has formally joined the Italian Cable Group (ICC). This strategic acquisition boosts ICCโ€™s innovation and service capacity, integrating Cavelโ€™s UL-certified, RoHS, and CE-marked products into ICC’s global supply network for power, utility, and specialty cable solutions across Europe and the Americas.

Cable deployment enters a key stage for record interconnector cable project

Deployment of Nexansโ€™ XLPE cable for the Celtic Interconnector, which will become the worldโ€™s longest subsea XLPE interconnector at 575 km, has entered a crucial installation phase with completion now targeted for 2028. The โ‚ฌ1.6 billion project directly links the Irish and French grids and is recognized as a Project of Common Interest by the EU. Land and sea works, including converter station construction and cable burial, are well underway, though commissioning was delayed from 2027 to 2028 due to the scale and complexity of marine cable-laying and system integration. The project will enable Irelandโ€™s first direct energy exchange with Europe, supporting 700 MW capacity to power about 450,000 homes and enhancing renewable energy integration. More than โ‚ฌ530 million was provided through EU grants for this strategic energy venture.

Ridgway Machines bought by a relatively new U.K. fusion technology company

TE Magnetics, a fusion technology firm under Tokamak Energy, acquired Ridgway Machines in September 2025 to accelerate high temperature superconductor (HTS) manufacturing in the UK. Ridgway, a Leicester-based pioneer in winding and insulating superconducting magnets and cables, will continue to operate as a subsidiary, retaining its staff and facility. The combined expertise will scale advanced UK production of HTS products for diverse applications in energy, science, and transportation, supporting global ambitions for fusion and electrification.

Assets of George A. Mitchell bought

Taylor-Winfield Technologies, Inc. has acquired substantially all of the assets of George A. Mitchell Company (GMC), headquartered in Ohio. The acquisition includes GMCโ€™s reputable push pointers, end forming machines, and tooling for tube, pipe, and wire rod preparation. Taylor-Winfield plans to maintain service and support for Mitchellโ€™s installed base while expanding its offerings for the wire and cable, tube, and pipe industries. The move strengthens both legacy and innovation in industrial manufacturing.

SPS to rebuild destroyed plant, plans to reopen it by 2028

A fire on February 17 destroyed over 80% of SPS Technologiesโ€™s 560,000-square-foot aerospace fastener plant in Jenkintown, PA. Parent firm Precision Castparts Corp will rebuild, planning a 350,000-square-foot LEED-certified site by early 2028, rehiring some displaced employees and enhancing fire safety and environmental protections.
