Primetals reports recent contracts

Primetals Technologies Wins Contract From Kaptan Iron & Steel

Primetals Technologies has signed a major agreement with Kaptan Demir Çelik (Kaptan Iron & Steel) to supply an upstream mill for its production site in Marmara Ereğlisi, Turkey. This new partnership — the Primetals Kaptan Iron Steel Contract — marks another milestone in advancing Turkey’s steel manufacturing capabilities.

Primetals Kaptan Iron Steel Contract Expands Manufacturing Capacity

The new mill will process round feedstocks designed for further rolling in the site’s wire rod outlet. With an anticipated annual capacity of 650,000 metric tons, the mill will produce high‑value steel grades including carbon, SBQ, and austenitic stainless steels. These materials will serve the engineering and automotive sectors across both domestic and export markets.

According to the company, hot commissioning for the complete installation is planned for mid‑2022. The facility will feature a maximum rolling rate of 130 tons per hour and will handle billets sized 130, 160, and 200 mm square by 12 meters long. The final feedstock diameters will range from 17 mm to 33 mm, optimized for the wire rod outlet’s roll pass design.

Engineers are also preparing the mill’s layout and equipment for integration with a future bar outlet, transforming the installation into a state‑of‑the‑art combined mill capable of producing quality and stainless‑steel bars.

ArcelorMittal Zenica Orders New Converter Vessel

In addition to the Kaptan Iron & Steel agreement, ArcelorMittal Zenica in Bosnia and Herzegovina has chosen Primetals Technologies to replace the vessel of its BOF converter #2 and supply related equipment.

The upgraded vessel design will expand production volume and improve operational efficiency. ArcelorMittal Zenica, the largest long steel producer in the Balkans, manufactures nearly one million tons of steel annually. Its key products include rebarwire rodmesh, and lattice girders, supporting major infrastructure and construction projects throughout the region.
