Primetals Technologies Wins Contract From Kaptan Iron & Steel

Primetals Technologiesย has signed a major agreement withย Kaptan Demir ร‡elikย (Kaptan Iron & Steel) to supply anย upstream millย for its production site inย Marmara EreฤŸlisi, Turkey. Primetals Kaptan Iron Steel Contract Expands Manufacturing Capacity

The new mill will processย round feedstocksย designed for further rolling in the siteโ€™s wire rod outlet. With an anticipatedย annual capacity of 650,000 metric tons, the mill will produceย highโ€‘value steel gradesย including carbon, SBQ, and austenitic stainless steels. These materials will serve theย engineeringย andย automotiveย sectors across bothย domestic and export markets.

According to the company,ย hot commissioningย for the complete installation is planned forย midโ€‘2022. The facility will feature aย maximum rolling rate of 130 tons per hourย and will handle billets sizedย 130, 160, and 200 mm square by 12 meters long. The final feedstock diameters will range fromย 17 mm to 33 mm, optimized for the wire rod outletโ€™s roll pass design.

Engineers are also preparing the millโ€™s layout and equipment for integration with aย future bar outlet, transforming the installation into aย stateโ€‘ofโ€‘theโ€‘art combined millย capable of producing quality and stainlessโ€‘steel bars.

ArcelorMittal Zenica Orders New Converter Vessel

In addition to the Kaptan Iron & Steel agreement,ย ArcelorMittal Zenicaย inย Bosnia and Herzegovinaย has chosenย Primetals Technologiesย to replace the vessel of itsย BOF converter #2ย and supply related equipment.

The upgraded vessel design will expand production volume and improve operational efficiency.ย ArcelorMittal Zenica, the largestย long steel producer in the Balkans, manufactures nearlyย one million tons of steel annually. Its key products includeย rebar,ย wire rod,ย mesh, andย lattice girders, supporting major infrastructure and construction projects throughout the region.
