Primetals Technologies sells 3 wire rod mills to customer in Chinaโ€™s northern region

Primetals Technologies Secures Wire Rod Mill Contract in China

U.K.-basedย Primetals Technologiesย has secured a contract to deliverย three high-speed wire rod millsย to a major Chinese manufacturer expanding itsย production capacity.

Advanced Mill Technology and Equipment

The project includes threeย single-strand, high-speed wire rod millsย equipped withย Morgan Vee Mini-Blocksย forย mini-finishing operations. Each mill will feature:

  • Morgan Intelligent Pinch Rolls

  • High-speed laying heads

  • Hydraulic systems

  • Oil lubrication systems

Two mills will operate withย two-stand 230 mini-finishing mills, while the third will use aย two-stand 250 configuration. Primetals Technologies will also supplyย air and oil systemsย for aย snap shearย and aย rollerized turndown, improving efficiency and reliability.

High Output and Performance Capabilities

Each mill will deliver an annual production capacity ofย 720,000 metric tons. The systems will reachย maximum operating speeds of 115 meters per secondย and achieveย rolling rates up to 150 metric tons per hour.

The mills will produce:

  • Wire rodย ranging fromย 5.5 mm to 28 mm in diameter

  • Rebarย fromย 6 mm to 16 mm

  • Coilย withย 850 mm inner diameterย andย 1,250 mm outer diameter

Strengthening Production Capabilities

The new mills will enhanceย thermo-mechanical rolling performanceย and support expansion at the customerโ€™sย main production site. The company, one of northern Chinaโ€™s largestย raw material suppliers for fasteners, also producesย welding wireย andย carbon structural steel grades.

Primetals Technologies expects to complete installation and beginย operations within the year.
