Prysmian to supply Petrobras with 170 km of umbilicals and related services

Prysmian Secures Over โ‚ฌ100 Million Petrobras Umbilical Contract

Prysmian Groupย has secured a contract worth more than โ‚ฌ100 million fromย Petrobrasย to supply 170 kilometers of deep-water electro-hydraulic umbilicals, along with specialized offshore and logistics services. This contract enhances Prysmianโ€™s position as a global leader in advanced subsea technologies.

Delivering Advanced Subsea Engineering in Brazil

Prysmianโ€™s offshore specialties site in Vila Velha, Brazil, will engineer, manufacture, test, and deliver the umbilicals between 2024 and 2027. The project includes both steel tube and thermoplastic umbilical systems, designed for high-performance operation under extreme deep-water conditions.

โ€œThis award confirms the strong trust and long-term partnership between Petrobras and Prysmian Group,โ€ said Detlev Waimann, Chief Commercial Officer of the Projects Business Unit at Prysmian Group. โ€œIt follows several successful projects weโ€™ve executed for Petrobras over the years.โ€

Investing in Technology and Offshore Capabilities

Prysmianโ€™s dedicated Offshore Specialties unit continues to expand its capabilities to support complex subsea infrastructure. Over recent years, the company has increased investment in the Vila Velha facility, improving manufacturing capacity, logistics, and end-to-end project delivery. These improvements allow Prysmian to respond effectively to global energy demands with advanced cable system solutions.

High-Performance Umbilical Design

The Petrobras umbilicals featureย high-pressure hydraulic control hosesย made with a nylon liner reinforced by a polyaramid braid and protected by an extruded polyurethane sheath. Additionally, theย electrical control cables, insulated and jacketed with SEVEREX high-performance compounds, can meet the most demanding system specifications.

To ensure maximum strength and reliability, Prysmian assembles and sheathes all umbilical components with a polymeric extruded layer. It then reinforces them with counter-helix double-layer flat steel wire armor. This design virtually eliminates torsional stress during installation or operation and improves hydrodynamic stability in harsh offshore environments.

Strengthening Brazilโ€™s Offshore Energy Future

By combining advanced materials technology with extensive offshore experience, Prysmian continues to play a vital role in Brazilโ€™s deep-water energy development. This new Petrobras umbilical contract reaffirms the companyโ€™s strategic presence in Latin Americaโ€™s growing offshore market.
