Expanding Power Connections Across the Cyclades Islands

Project Scope and Technical Specifications
Prysmian will design, supply, and install two high-voltage alternating current (HVAC) cable systems. These systems will connect the islands of Evia, Andros, and Tinos.
The cables will transmit up to 200 MVA of power. The project includes:
- 150 kV three-core cables with XLPE insulation
- Double-wire armoring for durability
- Integrated fiber optic cable systems
The total route will extend over 18 km, including 16.5 km of submarine cable and 2 km of land cable.
Prysmian Cyclades Island Interconnection Project Installation Plan
Prysmian will manufacture submarine cables at its Arco Felice plant in Naples. It will produce land cables at the Pignataro facility, also in Naples.
The company will use its Giulio Verne cable-laying vessel to install the submarine cables. The installation will reach depths of up to 550 meters, especially along the Evia-Andros connection.
Project Timeline and Delivery
Prysmian will carry out production during 2018–2019. The company plans to complete delivery and commissioning by Q3 2019. As a result, the project will improve energy reliability across the Cyclades islands.
Strengthening Mediterranean Energy Infrastructure
The project reinforces Prysmian’s leadership in submarine cable systems and deep-water installations. It also supports the expansion of Mediterranean power grids.
Prysmian has delivered several major interconnection projects across the region, including links between Italy and Greece, Spain and Morocco, and multiple projects in the Balearic Islands and Turkey.
This project also builds on Prysmian’s earlier work with IPTO, including the Syros mainland interconnection project awarded in 2014.
