Sandvik Acquires Accuratech Group to Grow Medical Wire Business
Sandvik, the Sweden-based engineering group, has completed the Sandvik Accuratech medical wire acquisition, bringing Swiss-based Accuratech Group into its portfolio. This move strengthens Sandvik’s medical wire capabilities and also supports its strategy to grow in high‑value, specialized markets.
Sandvik Accuratech Medical Wire Acquisition: Capabilities and Products
Accuratech Group includes Polyfill, which manufactures a wide range of specialty wires. Its portfolio covers ultra‑fine wires for nano‑ and micro‑technology in the medical field, round bare wires from 0.8 mm to 0.007 mm, flat wires and ribbons for multiple applications, electroplated wires (gold, nickel, platinum, silver, zinc), and insulated wires ranging from standard copper to multi‑coated biocompatible wires and special alloys.
The group also includes Galvarex, which provides advanced electroplating treatments for wires and components used in demanding industries such as medical, automotive, micro‑tech, and electronics.

Integration With Kanthal and Strategic Growth Focus
Sandvik will report Accuratech Group within Kanthal, a division of Sandvik Materials Technology. This integration broadens Kanthal’s high‑performance wire offering for critical medical and industrial applications and, moreover, supports Sandvik’s shift‑to‑growth strategy.
Sandvik President and CEO Stefan Widing stated that the acquisition marks an important step as Sandvik Materials Technology prepares to become a separately listed company. By focusing more on segments with strong growth and solid earnings potential, Sandvik strengthens its position in advanced medical wire technology and specialized components.
