Sterlite Tech to acquire Italian cable manufacturer

Sterlite Tech Acquires Metallurgica to Expand European Cable Business

The Sterlite Tech Metallurgica acquisition strengthens the company’s global expansion strategy and enhances its position in the optical fiber and specialty cable market. Through this deal, Sterlite Tech will expand its footprint across key European markets.

Sterlite Tech Metallurgica Acquisition Expands Capabilities

Sterlite Tech has signed an agreement to acquire Metallurgica Bresciana S.p.A for approximately €47 million. The company is completing the transaction through its Italian subsidiary, Sterlite Technologies SpA, with closing expected in July.

Metallurgica specializes in precision optical fiber cables and specialized copper cables for a wide range of communication applications. As a result, the acquisition adds complementary products to Sterlite Tech’s growing portfolio.

Strengthening Global Supply Chain Strategy

With this move, Sterlite Tech improves its ability to serve customers across Europe. In particular, the company aims to position its manufacturing facilities closer to key markets. This strategy supports the growing demand for next-generation network infrastructure.

According to CEO Dr. Anand Agarwal, the acquisition enhances Sterlite Tech’s optical fiber cabling business while strengthening its global supply chain. Furthermore, it enables faster delivery and improved customer support across regions.

Metallurgica’s Legacy of Innovation

Founded in 1968, Metallurgica initially produced copper multi-tubes for the oil and gas sector. Over time, the company expanded into special cable assemblies and later into low-voltage cable production.

During the 1990s, Metallurgica invested in fiber optic cable technology, including Italy’s only linear electron beam accelerator. This innovation allowed the company to develop miniaturized, high-temperature resistant cables for railway and industrial applications.

More recently, Metallurgica expanded globally by opening a production facility in Ma’anshan, China, to serve local market demand.
