Removal of lubricants from freshly drawn wire is historically cumbersom and environmentally unattractive. A cost-effective alternative process, commercialized in Europe, consists of ultrasonically treating the wire in a water bath. Data on the effectiveness of this novel process will be presented, along with related economics.
