The parameters โ€œaxial displacementโ€ and โ€œdiameter of a free wrapโ€ may be subjected to large variations which will affect the accuracy of resulting springs. The โ€œLong Springโ€ examination method has been developed to visualize the effect of variations on the parameters of coiled spring. Additional experimental setups are not necessary because the wire testing is practice-related by using the coiling machine. Also, a test rig with a sensor wheel was developed to allow continuous, non-destructive examination.
