The development of the microwire process from its beginnings in the U.S. in the 1920’s to a production machine in the Soviet Union in the 1950’s is reviewed. The process of making ultrafine glass-coated wire and properties of the wire produced are described. Fabrication methods for electrical devices are discussed.
