Tests were carried out to determine the most satisfactory coating for music wire springs. Torsional and tensile tests were done on zinc, nickel, and nickel-copper coated springs. Zinc and nickel were both found to be acceptable coatings; zinc has excellent corrosion resistance, while nickel plate is found to be considerably harder.
