Vodafone Germany Expands Gigabit Broadband with Major Fiber and Cable Upgrades
Vodafone Germany has completed the first phase of upgrades to its hybrid fiber-cable network, now serving 12.7 million households across the country. The company continues to accelerate its broadband expansion strategy to meet growing demand for high-speed internet.
€2 Billion Investment in Gigabit Infrastructure
Vodafone plans to invest more than €2 billion to expand gigabit broadband services. This initiative combines fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP) deployment with upgrades to its existing cable network.
A significant portion of the investment—approximately €1.5 billion—will focus on connecting businesses. The remaining budget will enhance gigabit speeds across 12.6 million cable-connected homes.

Faster Rollout with DOCSIS 3.1 Technology
Vodafone has accelerated the rollout of DOCSIS 3.1 technology, which enables gigabit speeds using existing copper cable infrastructure. The company reduced the rollout timeline from four years to two years, allowing major cities to access gigabit cable broadband sooner.
In July, Vodafone introduced 500 Mbps speeds across its cable network, which already covers more than 20% of its footprint.
Expanding Fiber Access for Businesses
Vodafone aims to deliver optical fiber connections to around 100,000 companies across 2,000 business parks. The company is working with partners such as Deutsche Glasfaser (https://www.deutsche-glasfaser.de) to support this rollout.
However, Vodafone requires a minimum 40% adoption rate in targeted areas before proceeding with deployment.
Current Progress and Future Goals
Vodafone has already upgraded over 500,000 households, delivering speeds up to 500 Mbps in cities including Passau, Haßfurt, Nordhausen, and Ingolstadt.
The company plans to upgrade its entire cable network to support speeds of up to 1 Gbps. Existing customers with 200 Mbps, 400 Mbps, or 500 Mbps plans can request upgrades to gigabit speeds.
Competitive Landscape in Germany
