Hellenic Cables awarded contract to supply cable for 2 offshore wind farms

66 kV Inter-Array Cable ECA Secured

Hellenic Cablesย signed anย Exclusivity and Capacity Agreement (ECA)ย to supplyย 66 kV XLPE-insulated inter-array cablesย and accessories for theย Hai Long 2 (HL2)ย andย Hai Long 3 (HL3)ย offshore wind projects in Taiwan. The agreement confirms the companyโ€™s role as a key cable partner for this flagship development.

Hai Long: One of Taiwanโ€™s Largest Offshore Wind Projects

Theย Hai Long offshore wind farmย includes two sitesโ€”HL2 and HL3โ€”with aย combined capacity of 1,044 MW. Together, they form one ofย Taiwanโ€™s largest offshore wind farmsย and support the countryโ€™s long-term clean energy strategy.

A joint venture ofย Northland Power Inc.,ย Yushan Energy Pte Ltd, andย Mitsui & Co.ย is developing the project. The wind farms sitย 40โ€“50 km off the Changhua coast, in water depths ofย 35โ€“55 m, where wind conditions are strong and consistent.

HL2 consists of two sub-wind farms:

  • HL2Aย with up toย 300 MW

  • HL2Bย with up toย 232 MW

HL3ย adds anotherย 512 MW, which brings the total planned capacity to more than 1 GW.

Hellenic Cablesโ€™ Scope and Production Schedule

Under the ECA, Hellenic Cables will deliver aboutย 140 km of 66 kV XLPE-insulated inter-array cablesย plus all associated accessories. The company will manufacture these products at itsย Corinth, Greeceย plant, which specializes in high-performance submarine and offshore wind cables.

The production schedule includes two key milestones:

  • Completion forย Hai Long 2ย inย Q1 2024

  • Completion forย Hai Long 3ย inย Q4 2024

This phased approach helps align cable delivery with foundation and turbine installation offshore.

Developer Endorses Hellenic Cablesโ€™ Expertise

โ€œWe are delighted to have secured Hellenic Cables as our cable manufacturer and to be establishing this cooperation,โ€ saidย Felipe Montero, Hai Long Offshore Wind Project Director. He noted that Hellenic Cables handles aย critical scopeย for the project and praised the company as aย market leader in submarine cable manufacturing.

This collaboration highlights how reliable cable partners and proven technology reduce project risk and support long-term offshore wind performance.
