Coleman Fiber Optic Cable Plant Marks a Milestone for Nigeria and West Africa

Coleman Technical Industries Limited (CTIL)ย has officially launchedย Nigeriaโ€™s first fiber optic cable manufacturing plantย inย Ogun State. The new facility marks a major step for the nationโ€™s growing technology and telecommunications industry.

Located along theย Lagosโ€“Ibadan Expressway, the factory enables Nigeria to produce fiber optic cables locally instead of relying on imports. This move strengthens the countryโ€™s digital infrastructure and boosts its capacity to serve both domestic and regional markets.

George Onafowokan, Managing Director and CEO ofย Coleman Technical Industries Limited, described the plantโ€™s opening as a proud achievement for Nigerian manufacturing. He reaffirmed his belief inย local contentย and the importance ofย building capacity from within.

โ€œOur mission is to enhance local production and reduce dependence on imported materials,โ€ Onafowokan said. He also noted that the companyโ€™s long-term goal is to serveย West Africa, Central Africa, and nearlyย half of the African continent. When fully operational, the facility will becomeย Africaโ€™s largest fiber optic cable plant.

Ogun State Government Welcomes the Initiative

Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodunย praised Coleman for choosing the region for this milestone project. He called the plant a vital boost to the stateโ€™s technology and connectivity plans.

The governor announced that Ogun State intends to layย 5,000 kilometers of fiber optic cablesย to improve broadband access. With Colemanโ€™s new plant now operational, the state will have the materials and expertise to accelerate that mission.

As a result, businesses, schools, and communities across Ogun will soon enjoy faster and more reliable internet connectivity.

Strengthening Digital Connectivity Across Africa

The newย Coleman fiber optic cable plantย is theย first of its kind in West Africaย and theย fifth in Africa. This milestone showcases Nigeriaโ€™s growing ability to drive industrial innovation and regional digital transformation.

By producing advanced technology locally, Coleman helps Nigeria reduce import costs, create jobs, and enhance self-sufficiency. More importantly, the plant establishes Ogun State as a key hub for Africaโ€™s connectivity and sustainable development.
