Mobily Telecom Egypt Subsea Cable MoU Links Saudi Arabia and Egypt
On July 3,ย Etihad Etisalat Company (Mobily)ย announced a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) withย Telecom Egyptย to build the first submarine cable system that directly connects the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) to Egypt. This new route strengthens regional connectivity and, importantly, supports growing international data demand.
Mobily Telecom Egypt Subsea Cable MoU Overview
Executives signed the MoU in Riyadh. Eng.ย Salman AlโBadran, CEO of Mobily, andย Adel Hamed, Managing Director and CEO of Telecom Egypt, represented their companies at the ceremony. The agreement explores new ways to route international capacity to Europe in the west through Telecom Egyptโs network and, in addition, to the GCC in the east through Mobilyโs infrastructure.
Both partners plan to expand and interconnect their networks with neighboring countries. As a result, they can unlock more diverse paths and provide carriers and content providers with additional route options.
Meeting Rising Traffic Between KSA and Egypt
Traffic between Saudi Arabia and Egypt continues to grow quickly. Enterprises, cloud providers, and consumers now rely heavily on bandwidthโintensive digital services. Therefore, the planned submarine cable system targets rising communication volumes and the strong demand for reliable, lowโlatency connectivity between the two countries.
The new system will also improve resilience. By adding another direct route, Mobily and Telecom Egypt can offer better redundancy and route diversity for regional and international customers.
Strengthening Regional Digital Infrastructure
โBy adopting cuttingโedge technologies, we continue to expand our infrastructure and scale our capabilities across the KSA and the wider region,โ saidย Salman AlโBadran, CEO of Mobily. He added that Mobily feels confident the strategic partnership with Telecom Egypt will help it achieve its longโterm network and service goals.
Together, Mobily and Telecom Egypt aim to position their combined networks as key regional hubs. Consequently, the new subsea system will support international carriers, digital platforms, and cloud services that connect Europe, Africa, and the GCC through Saudi Arabia and Egypt.
