UL opens lab in Mexico

UL Opens Mexico UL Laboratory in Querétaro to Boost Regional Growth

On July 3, 2022, UL opened Mexico UL, its first laboratory in Mexico, in the city of Querétaro, about 137 miles northwest of Mexico City. This new facility deepens UL’s three-decade relationship with Mexico and, importantly, helps manufacturers bring safe, compliant products to market faster and more efficiently.

Mexico UL Supports Local and Export Markets

The Mexico UL laboratory ranks among the first multinational testing labs to operate in Mexico. It tests products for safety and performance for the Mexican market. In addition, it supports exports to the United States, Canada, and countries throughout Latin America. Therefore, manufacturers in the region gain local access to global-level testing, which reduces time and cost.

“Today marks an exciting new day in our three-decade relationship with Mexico as we open UL’s newest state-of-the-art lab in Querétaro,” said Jennifer Scanlon, UL President and CEO. She noted that UL’s mission of working for a safer world drives the company to use its testing and certification expertise to help manufacturers in Mexico grow and prosper by bringing their innovations to market quickly and safely.

Strategically Located UL Facility in Querétaro

Mexico UL sits in the Kaizen Industrial Park complex, close to Querétaro International Airport. This location gives customers convenient access for testing and certification projects. The lab provides local testing for the UL Mark for the U.S. and Canada, which helps shorten lead times. After accreditation approval, it will also offer the Normas Oficiales Mexicanas (NOM) mark in Mexico and expanded Latin American testing services.

UL’s Global Footprint and Industry Impact

UL operates more than 140 locations in over 40 countries across North America, Europe, Latin America, Asia Pacific, and Africa. Its team includes more than 14,000 scientists, engineers, problem solvers, and innovators. Together, they work with customers to demonstrate safety, enhance sustainability, and strengthen security. Moreover, UL partners with about 60% of Global 500 and Fortune 500 companies, supporting many of the world’s largest organizations.

Through the launch of Mexico UL in Querétaro, UL reinforces its commitment to Mexico’s manufacturing sector. As a result, local companies gain nearby resources that support innovation, regulatory compliance, and international expansion.
