Ohio Valley Chapter packed in a lot of activity at the Kennsington Golf Club

The WAI Ohio Valley Chapter delivered another successful golf and education event on August 24, bringing together 70 attendees for a full day of learning, networking, and competition.

Event Highlights

The day began with a golf outing at Kensington Golf Club in Canfield, Ohio, followed by a three-part educational program and an awards ceremony. During the event, Chapter President Tom Maxwell announced the launch of the Ohio Valley Chapter scholarship program, which will begin in January 2024.

The announcement received a standing ovation, showing strong support from attendees.

Educational Sessions

The chapter presented a focused technical program with industry experts:

  • Rick Bray of WAFIOS Machinery Corp. (https://www.wafios.com) covered Butt Welding and Annealing Correctly.
  • Tamara Girard and Miranda Garritano from the Ohio EPA discussed Reducing Waste, Saving Money, and Achieving Compliance.
  • Greg Viland and Jeff Terrell from Sikora International (https://www.sikora.net) presented Using X-Ray Technology to Measure Wall Thickness in Wire and Cable.

Golf Tournament Results

The team of Cliff Goss and Brock Braun of SDI LaFarga COPPERWORKS, along with Chris Skidmore of OmniSource (https://www.omnisource.com), won the tournament with a score of 10 under par 72.

Chapter Leadership and Sponsors

The chapter introduced its leadership team, with Tom Maxwell continuing as president. Board members include representatives from Condat, WAFIOS, Rainbow Rubber, Blachford, Enkotec, Premier Wire Die, and others.

Scholarship Program Details

The Ohio Valley Chapter scholarship program, administered by the Wire Foundation, will support students connected to chapter members.

The program will award up to two scholarships annually, with each award valued at up to $1,500. Eligible applicants include high school seniors or current college students enrolled in two- or four-year programs.

Applicants must be children, grandchildren, or dependents of WAI Ohio Valley Chapter members in good standing. The program accepts all fields of study and considers special circumstances when applicable.
