Alcatel Submarine Networks expands cable vessel fleet with 2 additions

ASN Marine Expands Fleet With Two New Cable Vessels

The ASN Ile de Molène and Ile d’Yeu vessels strengthen Alcatel Submarine Networks’ Marine division as it expands installation capacity in the global submarine telecommunications market. With these new ships, Alcatel Submarine Networks (ASN) further supports long‑distance, high‑bandwidth undersea connectivity and responds to growing data demand.

New Vessels Join the ASN Fleet

The Ile de Molène joined the ASN fleet on May 7, 2021. The Ile d’Yeu followed on June 17, 2021. Both vessels now enter an intensive engineering and upgrade program so they can handle demanding subsea cable maintenance and installation work.

Roles in Maintenance and Installation

After the upgrades, Ile de Molène will maintain customer submarine telecommunications cables in the Atlantic Ocean and the North Sea. ASN expects the vessel to start operations in the first half of 2022.

Meanwhile, Ile d’Yeu will join the installation fleet at the end of 2022. The ship will support transoceanic telecom systems and help deploy new high‑capacity submarine routes across key global corridors.

Technical Specifications

The Ile d’Yeu measures 147 meters in length, with 4,375 net tonnage and 13,520 gross tonnage, which provides the size and stability needed for complex cable‑laying operations. The Ile de Molène measures 98 meters long with 2,080 net tonnage and 5,729 gross tonnage, so it fits agile maintenance missions in challenging offshore conditions.

Together, these vessels expand ASN’s ability to install and maintain critical subsea cable infrastructure and, in turn, keep global communications connected and resilient.
