Bombardier Transportation to sell its wire harness activities in Mexico to MSSL

Bombardier Sells EWIS Operations in Mexico to MSSL Subsidiary

Bombardier Transportationย has agreed to sell the activities of itsย Electrical Wiring Interconnection Systems (EWIS)ย at itsย Huehuetoca, Mexicoย manufacturing site (BT Ensambles Mรฉxico) to a subsidiary ofย Motherson Sumi Systems Limited (MSSL). For more on MSSLโ€™s global capabilities, visitย Motherson, and for corporate updates from Bombardier Transportation, seeย Bombardier.

Continued EWIS Production and Strategic Focus

The MSSL subsidiary will continue to manufacture theย same electrical harnesses and assembliesย currently produced at the Huehuetoca site, ensuring continuity for Bombardierโ€™s projects in the Americas. In addition, Bombardier Transportation uses this divestment to sharpen its focus onย core and integration competencies, aligning its portfolio more closely with strategic priorities.

Elliot Sander,ย President, Americas Region, Bombardier Transportation, noted that the transaction benefits both companies. Bombardier has sought aย long-term supplier partnershipย for electrical harnesses and assemblies in the Americas, and it views MSSL as anย ideal partnerย to support future programs.

Part of a Broader EWIS Divestment Strategy

This sale follows a series of similar EWIS divestments. Inย December, Bombardier sold itsย EWIS assets in Querรฉtaro, Mexicoย toย Latรฉcoรจre, including aย long-term supply agreementย under which Latรฉcoรจre continues to supply EWIS to Bombardier. Earlier, inย February 2019, Bombardier also sold itsย wiring harness assets in Derby, U.K.ย to another subsidiary ofย MSSL, further extending the relationship between the groups.

Collectively, these transactions allow Bombardier to rely on specialized partners forย electrical wiring and harnesses, while it concentrates investment onย vehicle integration, systems, and core transportation technologies.
