Copperweld–Seminole acquisition overview
Copperweld Group, Inc. has completed the Copperweld–Seminole acquisition, purchasing Seminole Wire & Cable Co., Inc., a New Jersey‑based maker of specialty wire and cable products. This move strengthens Copperweld’s manufacturing base and also moves the Copperweld brand closer to end customers. You can learn more about the company at https://www.copperweld.com.
Added manufacturing, R&D, and customer reach
With Seminole now in the group, Copperweld gains in‑house wire extrusion and other key production steps. The deal also improves Copperweld’s finishing work, including cabling, braiding, and assembly, so the company controls more of the value chain. In addition, Copperweld plans to use Seminole’s R&D team to speed new product launches and to add better testing methods.
Copperweld CEO Craig York says the partnership will create closer ties with end users. As a result, the company expects to serve customers more effectively. He also notes that Copperweld can now offer its bimetallic wire solutions to many Seminole customers who use other products today, since Copperweld bimetallics often give better form, fit, and function.
Strategic backing from Kinderhook Industries
Copperweld supplies bimetallic wiring products and is the only U.S. producer of copper‑clad steel (CCS) and copper‑clad aluminum (CCA) wire. In 2019, Kinderhook Industries, LLC, a private investment firm with more than $3.1 billion in committed capital, acquired Copperweld to support its next growth phase. Kinderhook Managing Director Paul Cifelli says this deal adds upstream manufacturing capabilities that support Copperweld’s output across several product lines as the business grows. He also expects Copperweld to make strong use of Seminole’s skills in extrusion, finishing, and assembly. Meanwhile, Michael Genzel will continue to serve as president of Seminole Wire & Cable Co., Inc., which helps keep stability and continuity for Seminole’s customers.
