New Subsea Cable Across the English Channel
Crosslake Fibre has announced plans to build the CrossChannel Fibre subsea cable, a 550-kilometer fiber-optic link between France and England. Notably, this project will be the first new cable across the English Channel in nearly 20 years. As a result, it will strengthen connectivity between two major European markets.

High-Capacity Network and Direct Route
The system will include 96 fiber pairs, and each pair will deliver more than 20 Tbps of throughput. Therefore, the cable will support high-speed, high-capacity data transmission.
In addition, the route will connect Paris, France, to Slough, England. This direct path will reduce latency and improve overall network performance.
Project Timeline and Survey Work
Currently, Crosslake Fibre has not selected a fiber optic cable supplier, and the contract remains open for bidding. Meanwhile, EGS (https://www.egssurvey.com) will carry out marine and burial surveys.
Originally, the company targeted autumn 2021 for completion. However, the timeline reflects early project planning goals.

According to CEO Mike Cunningham, the project will create a shorter transmission route. As a result, users will benefit from better efficiency and lower operating costs.
Proven Subsea Cable Experience
Previously, Crosslake Fibre completed a subsea cable between Toronto and New York. At the time, it marked the first new connection in nearly two decades. The company partnered with Hexatronic (https://www.hexatronic.com).
The system spans 36 miles (58 km) across Lake Ontario. It also uses a 192-fiber strand submarine cable, which highlights the company’s expertise in large-scale fiber projects.
