Ducab to supply cable for a solar plant that will be the worldโ€™s largest such project

Ducab Wins Al Dhafra 400 kV EPC Deal

Ducab Group, through itsย Ducab HVย division, won the full EPC contract to supply and install 400 kV cables and accessories for the Al Dhafra solar plant. The link will connect the project to Abu Dhabiโ€™s mainย TRANSCOย transmission grid.

Group CEO Mohammad Almutawa announced the contract at the WETEX exhibition. He said Ducab feels proud to support the UAEโ€™sย Energy Strategy 2050. The partnership covers engineering, procurement, construction, testing, and commissioning. With this order, Ducab now supplies cables for the three largest solar projects in the UAE.

Backing the UAEโ€™s Flagship Solar Projects

Ducab already provides its customย SolarBICCย cables to Abu Dhabiโ€™s Shams 1 plant and Dubaiโ€™s Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park. These sites rank among the worldโ€™s largest solar projects. The new Al Dhafra contract further anchors Ducab as a key cable supplier to utilityโ€‘scale solar in the region.

The company also champions theย โ€œMade in the UAEโ€ย initiative. It not only serves leading power projects, but also supports local manufacturers and auxiliary industries, helping deepen national industrial capability.

Local Partnerships and Industrial Value Chain

To build local value, Ducab works with partners across the UAE industrial chain, including EGA, KIZAD, and Borouge. It sources many materials and services from UAEโ€‘based organizations. This approach supports local jobs and strengthens domestic supply chains tied to the energy sector.

By embedding local partners into projects like Al Dhafra, Ducab helps create a more resilient ecosystem for advanced cable production and related industries. This ecosystem aligns with the UAEโ€™s wider economic diversification goals.

Al Dhafraโ€™s Role in Energy Strategy 2050

Theย Al Dhafra solar projectย directly supports the UAEโ€™s Energy Strategy 2050, which aims to lift clean energyโ€™s share of the national energy mix from 25% to 50% by 2050. The plant will use advancedย bifacial solar panelsย that capture light from both sides for higher efficiency.

Al Dhafra will have a 2 GW capacity and will supply power to Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC). Once fully operational, it will stand as the worldโ€™s largest singleโ€‘site solar power plant, using about 3.5 million solar panels to generate enough electricity for roughly 160,000 homes while cutting 2.4 million tonnes of COโ‚‚ annually.
