Gerdau Completes Acquisition of Silat in Cearรก

Brazilian steelmaker Gerdau SAย announced that its subsidiaryย Gerdau Aรงos Longosย has finalized the purchase of long steel producerย Siderรบrgica Latino Americana (Silat). Brazilโ€™s Administrative Council for Economic Defense (Cade) approved the transaction, allowing Gerdau to move forward confidently.

The company bought 96.35% of Silat for about $111 million. This deal reinforces Gerdauโ€™s long-term strategy to grow its presence in the steel value chain through new investments and acquisitions.

Expanding Operations in Northeast Brazil

With the acquisition complete, Gerdau strengthens its footprint in Brazilโ€™s Northeast โ€” a region with strong infrastructure and construction growth. The company already runs an industrial unit in Maracanaรบ, Cearรก, which will help create new operational synergies and improve logistics.

Gerdau Silat Acquisition Boosts Steel Capacity

Silat has operated in Cearรก since 2012, focusing on the civil construction sector. The company employs 233 people, including both direct and contract workers. Its rolling mills produce up to 600,000 tons of steel every year, and an expanded facility adds another 100,000 tons of capacity.

In addition, Silat produces rebar, welded mesh, steel mesh, and trusses โ€” key materials for Brazilโ€™s construction market.

Driving Innovation and Sustainable Growth

According to Marcos Faraco, vice president of Gerdau Aรงos Brasil, Argentina, and Uruguay, the project represents a major step forward. โ€œThis acquisition has strong potential for Gerdau,โ€ he said. It also reinforces the companyโ€™s culture of innovation and commitment to sustainable growth across South America.
