Project scope and manufacturing plans
The Seagreen Marine Wind Farm is a 1.075 GW project about 27 km off the coast of Angus, Scotland. It will be developed and operated by Seagreen Wind Energy Limited. When the project is complete, it will become Scotland’s largest offshore wind farm and will supply low‑carbon power to the U.K. grid.
Under this contract, Hellenic Cables will design and produce about 320 km of 66 kV inter-array cables with XLPE insulation, plus the needed accessories and parts. The company will make these cables at its submarine cable plant in Corinth, Greece, and it plans to start deliveries in early 2022.
Advancing low‑carbon energy and greener production
Hellenic Cables CEO Alexios Alexiou said the company feels proud to support Seaway 7 on a project that will provide low‑carbon energy to around 1 million homes and help speed up the U.K.’s energy transition. In addition, the company ranks among Europe’s largest cable makers and produces power and telecom cables as well as submarine cables for wind projects, grid links, and turnkey power projects in many sectors.
In related green efforts, Hellenic Cables has reached a deal with Enel Green Power so that all of its electricity use in Greece now comes from renewable energy. This deal covers the submarine cable plant in Corinth and the high‑voltage cable factory in Thebes. As a result, it shows the company’s clear focus on cleaner, lower‑emission production.
