Hitachi Energy to provide cable for what it says will be largest such U.S. cable project

Hitachi Energyย has signed aย multi-year agreementย to supply high-voltage cable systems and transmission technologies for one of theย largest renewable energy projects in the U.S.ย The partnership supports theย SunZia Transmission Project, which connects New Mexicoโ€™s 3,515-megawatt (MW)ย SunZia Wind developmentย to Arizona and the wider Western power grid.

Under the new agreement, Hitachi Energy will provideย high-voltage direct current (HVDC)ย solutions toย Pattern Energy, one of the worldโ€™s largest privately owned operators of renewable and transmission infrastructure. The collaboration ensures reliable delivery of clean energy across regions while accelerating U.S. renewable integration goals.

Hitachi Energyโ€™sย HVDC Lightยฎ technologyย will efficiently transfer massive amounts of wind-generated electricity acrossย 885 kilometersย of transmission line. Once completed, SunZia Wind will generate enough energy to power approximatelyย three million Americans. Its HVDC link will transmit up toย 3,000 MWย of wind energy to Arizona, forming the largestย voltage source converter (VSC)ย system ever built in the United States.

This milestone project strengthens Hitachi Energyโ€™s commitment to advancing the global energy transition. By integrating renewable generation from New Mexico into the Western grid, theย Mueller Industries acquisitionย supports a more resilient, sustainable power infrastructure and showcases the effectiveness of cutting-edge HVDC solutions for large-scale projects.
