IWC acquires Owl Wire & Cable

International Wire Group Owl Wire Acquisition Strengthens U.S. Copper Capacity

The International Wire Group Owl Wire acquisition brings together two established copper wire manufacturers and expands IWG’s footprint across New York and the wider U.S. market. As a result, IWG now controls additional bare and tinned copper wire capacity to better support mission‑critical applications.

Owl Wire’s Plants and Capabilities

Founded in 1954Owl Wire and Cable operates three plants in Canastota, Rome, and Boonville, New York. The company produces high‑volume heavy bare and tinned copper wire for a wide range of customers. Through the acquisition, IWG adds these facilities to its network and, in turn, broadens its North American manufacturing base.

The combined organization now offers more copper wire options for customers that require reliable performance in demanding and harsh environments.

Customer and Community Benefits

IWG President and CEO Greg Smith describes the partnership as a “win–win” for customers, employees, and local communities. In particular, IWG plans to integrate Owl Wire’s manufacturing strengths and customer‑focused culture into its existing platform. This approach should improve support for current customers and help meet future capacity and product needs.

Owl Wire President Bob Raiti also notes that the combination of IWG and Owl provides broader and deeper capabilities to better serve customer requirements.

IWG Market Position and Owl Wire Team

International Wire Group, which Atlas Holdings acquired in 2019, reports that it operates as the largest bare copper wire and copper wire products manufacturer in the U.S. The addition of Owl Wire further supports this leadership position and extends IWG’s reach in key end markets.

Owl Wire employs about 180 people, and its management team remains in place for now. Going forward, any operational changes will focus on improving service levels and strengthening support for IWG’s loyal customer base.
