JDR Cable Systems Plans ยฃ130M Subsea Cable Facility in Cambois

JDR Cable Systems (JDR), a leading global subsea cable and umbilical manufacturer within theย TFK Group, plans to build aย 69,000-square-meter subsea cable manufacturing facilityย inย Cambois, near Blyth, Northumberland. The newย JDR Cambois subsea cable facilityย will power U.K. offshore wind growth and strengthen the renewable energy supply chain.

Expanding Renewable Infrastructure in the U.K.

JDR has confirmed its commitment to the project, with construction expected to start inย 2022ย and completion planned forย 2024. Once up and running, the facility willย create 170 new jobsย whileย protecting 270 existing positionsย at JDRโ€™s current U.K. sites.

This project represents a major step forward for the companyโ€™s expansion strategy. It will addย high-voltage export cablesย andย long-length array cablesย to JDRโ€™s product range, helping meet the fast-growing demand for offshore wind power worldwide.

Investing in Sustainable Manufacturing

The new facility represents an investment of aboutย ยฃ130 million. Part of the funding will come from theย BEIS Offshore Wind Manufacturing Investment Support (OWMIS)ย scheme. JDR and TFK will secure the remaining financing with support fromย U.K. Export Financeย and other financial institutions.

By expanding in Cambois, JDR continues to invest in the future of clean energy and sustainable manufacturing in the U.K.

Boosting Jobs and Regional Growth

Theย JDR Cambois subsea cable facilityย will have a major local impact. Once fully developed, the site could employย over 400 people, creating opportunities in engineering, technology, and manufacturing. The plantโ€™s output will complement production atย JDRโ€™s Hartlepoolย andย Littleportย sites, reinforcing the companyโ€™s nationwide capabilities.

Advancing U.K. Cable Technology

The new plant will feature the countryโ€™s onlyย catenary continuous vulcanization (CCV) line. This system allows JDR to manageย end-to-end productionย ofย high-voltage subsea cables. As a result, the company can deliver faster turnaround times, improved quality, and stronger support for offshore wind projects.

With this investment, JDR takes another step in its mission to power global renewable energy and help drive a sustainable future.
