LS Cable named preferred bidder for cable for South Korea’s largest offshore wind farm

LS Cable & System Shinanwui Offshore Wind Project Advances Korea’s Clean Energy Goals

LS Cable & System won the bid to supply subsea cables for the Shinanwui (Sinan Ui) offshore wind farm. The project will become South Korea’s largest offshore wind development, marking another step toward a cleaner, energy‑independent future.

Project Overview and Capacity

Hanwha Engineering & Construction leads the 400 MW offshore project located near Ui‑Do Island in Sinan County, South Jeolla Province. Once operational, the wind farm will generate over three times the capacity of all current Korean offshore wind farms combined.

The contract, estimated at US $79 million, includes designing, producing, and installing all subsea power cables needed for construction. LS Cable & System expects to deliver the cables in the second half of 2025, and the wind farm should finish construction in 2026.

Strengthening Korea’s Offshore Energy Industry

A company spokesperson shared that this project helps protect South Korea’s domestic renewable industry. They explained that foreign providers, especially from China, already dominate the country’s solar market and now aim for offshore wind. Because of that, this partnership with Hanwha E&C ensures Korean companies maintain leadership in renewable innovation.

LS Cable & System Shinanwui Offshore Wind Project Expands Global Reach

LS Cable & System continues to secure major energy contracts in Asia and Europe. In 2024, the company launched South Korea’s first subsea cable‑laying vessel, improving cable installation speed, safety, and efficiency. Furthermore, these investments demonstrate LS’s commitment to driving the global shift toward renewable energy.

The company’s growing portfolio highlights its ability to combine technology, reliability, and sustainability across projects worldwide.
