Manufacturers partner on advanced approach to developing RF technology

Elkem and Schlenk Partner on Advanced RF Shielding Materials

Elkem, Inc. has formed a strategic partnership with Schlenk Metal Foils to develop advanced RF shielding materials and conductors. The collaboration targets growing demand in the high-frequency cable market for thinner, more flexible, and longer-lasting solutions.

RF Shielding Materials Partnership Expands Capabilities

Through this RF shielding materials partnership, Elkem combines its electroplating expertise with Schlenk’s leadership in rolled metal foil technology. Together, the companies now offer silver-plated copper foil solutions that outperform traditional flat-rolled wire.

Meeting Demand for High-Frequency Cable Performance

Manufacturers increasingly require materials that deliver:

  • Higher flexibility
  • Reduced thickness
  • Greater width
  • Longer service life

Traditional silvered copper wire often cannot meet these evolving performance standards. In contrast, the new foil-based conductors enable improved efficiency and durability in high-frequency cable applications.

Enabling Next-Generation Cable Design

The partnership allows cable manufacturers to design thinner conductors with higher aspect ratios. These conductors also provide enhanced flexibility and mechanical strength, which improves product performance in demanding environments.

Production Availability and Capacity Expansion

Elkem now offers these RF shielding materials for both R&D sampling and full-scale production. In addition, the company is expanding its plating capacity to meet rising market demand.

Elkem will also showcase its latest innovations at Interwire, highlighting its commitment to advancing cable material technologies.
