Nexans to supply 3,000 km of nuclear cables for U.K.โ€™s 1st such plant in 25+ years

Nexans Wins โ‚ฌ20M Contract for Hinkley Point C Nuclear Cables

Nexansย has secured aย โ‚ฌ20 million contractย to supplyย specialized nuclear cablesย for theย Hinkley Point C nuclear power stationย in the United Kingdom.

Contract Scope and Cable Production

Under thisย six-year agreement,ย Nexansย willย design and manufacture 3,000 kmย ofย nuclear-rated cables. Production will take place inย Mehun-sur-Yรจvre, France.

In addition, the company will deliver severalย custom-engineered solutions, including:

  • Medium-voltage (MV)ย andย low-voltage (LV) power cables

  • Control and instrumentation cables

  • Cables forย pumps, valves, and safety systems

  • Monitoring and control room wiring

These cables will operateย both inside and outside the containment area. As a result, they will supportย safe and reliable plant operations.

Moreover, Nexans will supply itsย ENERGEN NUC halogen-free cables. These cables meet strictย Euroclass fire safety standards, ensuring enhanced protection.

Supporting the UKโ€™s Nuclear Energy Expansion

Meanwhile,ย Hinkley Point Cย inย Somersetย marks a major step forward. It is theย first new nuclear power station in the UK in over 25 years.

Once completed, the plant will includeย two EPR reactorsย with a combined capacity ofย 3,200 MW. Consequently, it will supplyย low-carbon electricity to around six million homes.

In the long term, the project will also support the UKโ€™sย net zero targets. It will reduceย carbon emissions by 9 million tons per yearย over aย 60-year lifespan.
