Nexans Grand Paris Traction Cable Deal Supports Line 15 South
Nexans has secured a contract from VINCI‑Energies Traction to supply traction cables for metro Line 15 South, part of the Grand Paris Express (GPE) project. This Nexans Grand Paris Traction Cable Deal strengthens Nexans’ position in major rail and urban transport infrastructure.
Grand Paris Express Expands the Paris Metro
The Grand Paris Express will double the current Paris Metro network with four new lines, 68 stations, and about 200 km of track. The project also carries an estimated value of €35.6 billion, making it one of the world’s largest urban transport programs.
Line 15 forms a ring route around Paris, while Lines 16, 17, and 18 connect growing suburbs. Along its 33 km route, Line 15 South will run from Pont‑de‑Sèvres to Noisy‑Champs, pass through 22 districts, and serve more than one million people.
Traction Cable Production and Installation
Under the Nexans Grand Paris Traction Cable Deal, Nexans will manufacture most traction cables for Line 15 South at its Mehun‑sur‑Yèvre plant in France. Cable installation should begin in the third quarter of 2021, and Line 15 will be the first new line to open, currently planned for 2025.
The traction cables will be installed along the rails inside long tunnels and in several technical rooms. This design will help ensure safe, reliable power delivery to trains across the line.
High‑Performance K25 and R2V Cable Ranges
Nexans is the first cable manufacturer to receive a cable order for the Grand Paris Express. Most traction cables for Line 15 South come from the K25 range, which meets stringent railway fire‑performance standards. These cables improve fire safety while maintaining high mechanical and electrical performance.
The contract also includes R2V cables for complementary power distribution. In addition, Nexans can provide logistics support to help VINCI‑Energies Traction secure on‑time deliveries and streamline installation on site.
Project Owners and Key Stakeholders
The Société du Grand Paris manages the overall project and oversees construction of the new metro network. Meanwhile, VINCI‑Energies and its traction consortium help public authorities and business customers develop energy, transport, and communication infrastructure, as well as industrial facilities and buildings.
Together, these partners rely on the Nexans Grand Paris Traction Cable Deal to deliver safe, efficient power for the future Line 15 South metro service.
