Nexans Grand Paris Traction Cable Deal Supports Line 15 South
Nexans has secured a contract from VINCIโEnergies Traction to supply traction cables forย metro Line 15 South, part of theย Grand Paris Express (GPE)ย project. Thisย Nexans Grand Paris Traction Cable Dealย strengthens Nexansโ position in major rail and urban transport infrastructure.
Grand Paris Express Expands the Paris Metro
Theย Grand Paris Expressย will double the current Paris Metro network withย four new lines,ย 68 stations, and aboutย 200 km of track. The project also carries an estimated value ofย โฌ35.6 billion, making it one of the worldโs largest urban transport programs.
Line 15 forms a ring route around Paris, while Lines 16, 17, and 18 connect growing suburbs. Along itsย 33 kmย route,ย Line 15 Southย will run fromย PontโdeโSรจvresย toย NoisyโChamps, pass throughย 22 districts, and serve more thanย one million people.
Traction Cable Production and Installation
Under theย Nexans Grand Paris Traction Cable Deal, Nexans will manufacture most traction cables for Line 15 South at itsย MehunโsurโYรจvreย plant in France. Cable installation should begin in theย third quarter of 2021, andย Line 15ย will be the first new line to open, currently planned forย 2025.
The traction cables will be installed along the rails inside long tunnels and in several technical rooms. This design will help ensure safe, reliable power delivery to trains across the line.
HighโPerformance K25 and R2V Cable Ranges
Nexans is the first cable manufacturer to receive a cable order for the Grand Paris Express. Most traction cables for Line 15 South come from theย K25 range, which meetsย stringent railway fireโperformance standards. These cables improve fire safety while maintaining high mechanical and electrical performance.
The contract also includesย R2V cablesย for complementary power distribution. In addition, Nexans can provide logistics support to help VINCIโEnergies Traction secure onโtime deliveries and streamline installation on site.
Project Owners and Key Stakeholders
Theย Sociรฉtรฉ du Grand Parisย manages the overall project and oversees construction of the new metro network.
