Nexans wins contract from French grid operator for offshore wind farm project

Nexans €100 Million Le Tréport Offshore Wind Farm Contract Powers France’s Energy Future

Nexans, a global leader in cable and system solutions, secured a €100 million contract from French grid operator RTE. The agreement covers the supply and installation of export cables for the 496 MW Le Tréport Offshore Wind Farm, located in the English Channel.

The project sits roughly 15.5 km from Le Tréport and 17 km from Dieppe. It includes 47 km of offshore cable and 18 km of onshore cable, connecting the offshore substation directly to France’s national electricity grid. This partnership strengthens France’s efforts to expand renewable energy access across the region.

Expanding Offshore Wind Connectivity with RTE

The Eoliennes en Mer Dieppe Le Tréport consortium is developing the offshore wind farm, while RTE oversees its connection to the power grid. Nexans will deliver both subsea and onshore cables, ensuring efficient power transmission between land and sea.

For the subsea links, Nexans will supply two 23.5 km lengths of 225 kV three‑core cable. Each system includes hybrid armoring and fiber‑optic monitoring sensors, which help track cable performance and relay data in real time. As a result, the installation will improve both reliability and communication between the offshore network and the onshore base.

Manufacturing and Project Milestones

Production for the subsea cables will take place at Nexans’ Halden plant in Norway, while the onshore cables will come from its Charleroi facility in Belgium. The fiber‑optic components will be manufactured at Nexans’ Rognan, Norway site, combining the company’s global resources for higher efficiency.

Nexans plans to begin subsea cable installation during the second half of 2024. The company will use its advanced CS Skagerrak cable‑laying vessel, designed for precision, speed, and safety in harsh offshore conditions.

Supporting France’s Onshore Power Grid

The onshore network will include 18 km of 225 kV single‑core cable, similar to the models Nexans has delivered under its ongoing agreement with RTE. In addition, the company will handle cable burial and protection, ensuring long‑term durability and grid security.

Through the Nexans €100 million Le Tréport offshore wind farm project, the company reinforces its leadership in sustainable power cable solutions and supports France’s energy transition toward cleaner, renewable power.
