Nokia sale is completed: the ASN subsea cable business is now owned by France

Nokia completed the sale ofย Alcatel Submarine Networks (ASN)ย to the French State on Dec. 31, 2024, officially transferring ownership of the subsea cable business. The French State manages its new stake through theย Agence des participations de lโ€™ร‰tat, reinforcing national control over strategic digital infrastructure.

During the transition phase,ย Nokiaย retains a 20% shareholding in ASN and continues to hold representation on the companyโ€™s board. The French State plans to acquire Nokiaโ€™s remaining interest over time, which will eventually bring ASN fully under state ownership.

Alcatel Submarine Networksย reports on its website that it has delivered approximately 750,000 km of optical submarine cable systems worldwide, serving operators, cloud providers and content players. This extensive footprint positions ASN as a key player in global subsea connectivity and international data traffic.
