JSW Steel Wire Rod Mill Project Boosts Capacity in India

Advanced Mill Design and Technology
Primetals Technologies will deliver a complete wire rod mill solution, including all mechanical and electrical equipment. The system will use a single-stand roughing mill that feeds two rolling lines. These lines will merge at the coil-handling area for compacting and unloading.
The mill will feature advanced Morgan-branded technologies, including:
- An individually driven pre-finishing mill that eliminates uploopers
- A faster cooling nozzle system to reduce changeover time
- A 6 Morgan High Speed Laying Head with SR Series pipe technology
- A patented stepless reform system for improved coil formation
High-Speed Production and Performance
The JSW Steel wire rod mill project will operate at speeds of up to 115 meters per second. It will achieve a production rate of 220 tons per hour and deliver an annual capacity of 1.2 million metric tons (mmt).
Primetals will also provide site supervision and spare parts to support installation and long-term operations. The company expects the mill to begin operations by the end of 2019.
Strengthening a Long-Term Partnership
This project marks the third major order from JSW Steel to Primetals Technologies. The companies have previously completed a single-strand wire rod mill and a bar mill together.
