JSW Steel Wire Rod Mill Project Expands Production Capacity
The JSW Steel wire rod mill project marks another major investment in advanced steel manufacturing in India. Advanced Equipment and Mill Design
Primetals Technologies will supply the complete wire rod mill, including all mechanical and electrical systems. The design uses a single-stand roughing mill that feeds two independent rolling lines. These lines will then merge at the coil-handling area for compacting and unloading.
The mill will include advanced Morgan-branded technologies, such as:
- An individually driven pre-finishing mill that removes the need for uploopers
- A faster cooling nozzle system for reduced changeover time
- A 6 Morgan high-speed laying head with SR Series pipe technology
- A patented stepless reform system for improved coil formation
High-Speed Performance and Production Output
The JSW Steel wire rod mill project will deliver high performance and efficiency. The mill will operate at speeds of up to 115 meters per second. It will also achieve a production rate of 220 tons per hour, with an annual capacity of 1.2 million metric tons (mmt).
Primetals will provide site supervision and spare parts to support installation and operation. The company expects to complete the project by the end of 2019.
Ongoing Partnership with Primetals Technologies
This order represents the third project JSW Steel has awarded to Primetals Technologies. The company previously installed a single-strand wire rod mill and a bar mill for JSW.
